Mooana Poultry and Livestock is the 2nd largest completely integrated supplier of day old chicks to the independent market of broiler growers. We are also the only supplier of chicks that is involved in every aspect of the supply chain, from the production of the Grandparent stock which produces the correct genetic breeding stock to ensure optimal performance, to the complete control of all the parent flocks and the entire supply chain that produces a great chick that is completely traceable.

As one of the largest suppliers of day old chicks to independent broiler growers, Mooana Poultry and Livestock have ensured that we employ the best technical team available to successfully rear parent birds and produce quality hatching eggs.
At 24 weeks of age, the breeding stock is sufficiently mature to begin producing fertile eggs. These eggs are hand collected from the nesting boxes in the breeder houses four times a day and carefully graded to ensure that only first grade eggs are used for hatching. They are then transported by truck to the hatchery where they are held in air-conditioned egg stores for up to a week before being set in the state of the art incubators.
Mooana Poultry and Livestock believes in adding value to our chicks and our customers, and to this end we invest in both areas heavily. A highly competent technical team is available to ensure the quality of our product as well as assist any farmer with well-founded and practical advice.
Mooana Poultry and Livestock has three major areas in which it operates to ensure that our chicks can be dispatched to customers with the least stress, as traveling distances are manageable. The areas are KZN, where our head office is and where 85% of the fertile hatching eggs are produced and Pretoria where the largest of the hatcheries is located and 15% of the fertile eggs are produced; and we offer Nationwide deliveries and deliveries within the Southern African Regions, where a new breeding facility has been established to complement our growing hatchery.

In addition to our supply of day-old chicks and fertile hatching eggs to the independent broiler market, Mooana Poultry and Livestock is now a key cog in the supply chain to the Astral Group of companies, which also includes County Fair and Early Bird.
The team of experts that is involved in producing the eggs and chicks are all experienced stockmen that have a passion for the industry. This team is divided into groups that specialize in each discipline and they are engaged in these activities on a full time basis. We believe that this passion for efficient production is the cornerstone of our business and we enthusiastically pursue best practices in all aspects of our business.
This dedication to providing the best possible product has resulted in Mooana Poultry and Livestock Chicks only using the Ross /Cobb breed for our grandparent stock. We are in the process of implementing the new Ross 308 breed throughout each of the breeding farms within Mooana Poultry and Livestock.
